HOSMER LIBRARY RENOVATION
2021 Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Award winner
Historic libraries provide important community gathering spaces and resources.

CHALLENGE
Hosmer Library, one of the last four Carnegie Libraries in Minneapolis, is a local landmark and designated in the National Register of Historic Places, but it had not had any major improvements since 1997. Sensitive updates were needed to make the space more user-friendly while preserving the historic character.
SUCCESS
New History provided historic preservation consulting and design guidance to the Leo A Daly team. Key design solutions included updating the interior spaces while preserving historic woodwork, lighting, and the arrangement of space.
